Andrea Vinelli, Ph.D., is a Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management and Service Operations Management at the Department of Engineering & Management at the University of Padova, Italy.
He is the Dean of the Council of Engineering & Management at the University of Padova, President of the Alumni Association of the University of Padova, President of the Italian Association of Engineering & Management (AiIG), Director of the MBA Programme at the CUOA Business School, Italy.
He is a member of the Rector’s Commission for Image and Ranking of the University of Padova, member of the Board of the School of Engineering, University of Padova, member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Operations and Production Management.
From 2009 to 2015 he was a member of the Advisory Board of the College of Business, University of Michigan, Dearborn, USA. From 2001 to 2007 he was the Director of the PhD Programme in Engineering & Management of the Universities of Bologna, Padova, Parma and Udine, Italy.
From 1999 to 2006 he was a member of the Board of the European Operations Management Association (EurOMA). In June 2003 he was the Chairman of “One World? One view of the OM? The challenges of integrating research & practice”” the first Joint EurOMA-POMS International Conference, Como, Italy.
Since 1991 he is a member of the High Performance Manufacturing International Project, a global network active in lean management, whose research was published in High Performance Manufacturing: Global Perspectives, New York, J. Wiley & Sons, 2001.
From 2002 to 2006 he was Core Group Member - as Italy representative - in the European Socrates Project "Research on Operations Management and Supply Chain Management teaching in Europe".
From 1998 to 2001, he was Core Group Member in the European Adapt Project "DO" (Develop Operations), designed, organised and executed in partnership with the CUOA School of Management, the University of Padova, the University of Plymouth and Exeter, United Kingdom, and Aster - Paris South, France.
His research and consulting interests lie in the areas of operations strategies, supply networks and supply chain management, with a specific expertise in the fashion industry.
He is the Director of “Osservatorio Sistema Moda”, a research Consortium, established in 2011, that groups scholars from University of Padova, Politecnico di Milano and University of Florence, researching and investigating the fashion sector at national and international level.
He is author or co-author of more than 170 publications in journals such as the MIT Sloan Management Review, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, International Journal of Production Research, Journal of Cleaner Production, Operations Management Research, Integrated Manufacturing Systems, International Journal of Logistics, Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management, Supply Chain Forum, International Journal of Innovation Management and HSM Management. In 2013, he co-authored the book "Gestione delle Operations e dei Processi" by N. Slack, A. Brandon-Jones, R. Johnston, A. Betts, P. Danese, P. Romano and A. Vinelli, Pearson Education.
