Prerequisiti: Basic statistics and ability to read and understand a peer-reviewed scientific article in English language.
Conoscenze e abilita' da acquisire: The course contributes to strengthen the following students’ skills:

1. Identify basic theories, concepts and models investigating the role of power and power relations in psychology and mental health
2. Apply evidence-based reasoning to identify how thoughts, emotions and behaviors are affected by the Dominant Behavioral System (DBS)
3. Describe the role of power and the Dominant Behavioral System (DBS) in both the onset and solution of a range of psychopathologies
4. Write technical or professional paper on a topic of choice within the area of power psychology and mental health
5. Deliver oral presentation on a topic of choice within the area of area of power psychology and mental health
Modalita' di esame: For those who attend lectures:

Students are responsible for a 10-page, double-spaced, final paper (not including references) that consists in either a case study related to a particular topic presented in the course or the development of a new hypothesis in the area of power, psychology and mental health. Students will also deliver an oral examination of their paper.

For those who do NOT attend lectures:

Oral exam on the basis of mandatory readings (see “additional notes about suggested readings”) for details.

Attivita' di apprendimento previste e metodologie di insegnamento: The course consists of lectures, classroom participation, reading presentations and group exercise and final paper presentations.

Students that attend this course are strongly encouraged to also attend the “Psychopathologies of Power Lab” for practical applications of the concepts developed in this course
