The workshop aims to teach students to quantitative approaches to mobility studies, through the use of sources and databases. We will learn how to read documents and how to use this document in a quantitative way.
The aim is to introduce the reading of sources and their use (also through computer software) in order to develop individual research. Students will work on a individual or collective project.
To achieve this goal, the workshop lasts over the academic year (from October to May) on a fortnightly basis. It will take place in a computer room.
Sources and data concern migration and history trade (even in a long-term perspective 1500-2020) and, in particular, the following sources:
* demographic and tax information
* institutional sources
* public databases
The methodologies with which the sources will be interrogated include:
* textual analysis
* from documents to databases
* Social Network Analysis
The students will carry out a pilot project in the last part of the course following one or more of the proposed methodologies |
